How to create a WordPress Custom Homepage

The most common WordPress issue I see on the web for WordPress is creating a custom homepage.
Creating your homepage
The first step in creating your custom WordPress homepage is creating a normal page (to keep things simple lets just call it home).
Select your frontpage
Next step is to go to Settings -> Reading and from here you can select the (home) page as a static page.
This just tells WordPress that this is the homepage and to pull data from it for the frontpage template.
Setting up the WordPress template
The final step is to create a front-page.php in your theme folder. Now I’m not going to tell you how to code your page but the code below should pull in your header and footer and display you some static content.
<?php get_header(); ?> <div class="container"> <p>This is the static frontpage</p> </div> <?php get_footer(); ?>
Now if you’ve done followed each step your WordPress sites frontpage should display what you’ve added to your template or “This is the static frontpage”.
This is a good place for you to take this further and build and develop your homepage idea further.
The WordPress theme handbook is the best place to find further help on themeing and using template files.
